The delegation of TUKE visited CERN (CERN - Conseil Européen pour la Recherche Nucléaire - European Organization for Nuclear Research) in Geneva (Switzerland) on August 27-28, 2024. CERN is the most important international governmental organisation in the field of research on fundamental particles and the structure of matter and is a world leader in this field.

The delegation of TUKE led by the Rector and accompanied by other members of the TUKE Management, the Chairman of the TUKE Academic Senate, the Dean of the TUKE FVT and members of the TUKE research team on the ALICE experiment were introduced to the current activities of CERN and the possibilities of extending TUKE's cooperation with CERN.

The programme of the visit included meetings with CERN representatives:

  • Mr. Chochuľa, Head of Relations with CERN Member Countries and Deputy Coordinator of the ALICE Experiment Control System,
  • Mr. Mnich, Director of Research and IT,
  • Mr. van Leeuwen, ALICE Experiment spokesperson,
  • Mr. Jiménez from the LHC superconducting magnet assembly hall, and
  • with Mr. Salter from the CERN Data Centre.

A significant part of the discussions during the visit was about the ALICE Experiment at the LHC at CERN: Studying strongly interacting matter under extreme conditions. The research activities of the TUKE team on this experiment, led by Mr. Jadlovský, are focused on the control of the pixel detector, the development of a hybrid integrated circuit designed for the collecting and processing of signals from the ALICE detectors, and the development of software modules for the DCS control communication infrastructure. The project has been solved together with other partners during three phases: Phase 1 - from 2016 to 2020, Phase 2 - year 2021, and Phase 3 is currently underway (2022 to 2026).

TUKE is proud to be a strong member of CERN.
