Student ID card

Basic Information

  • Identification cards for first-year students will be printed before enrollment and distributed during registration. These cards will be ready for use in various applications such as library and dining services, transport systems, and copy/print services.
  • Students admitted in subsequent rounds (later deadlines) will receive their cards during a scheduled pickup time coordinated by the IT Support Center (ÚVT) and the academic departments.
  • Students applying to multiple faculties at the Technical University of Košice (TUKE) will not receive preprinted cards. A card will be printed for the faculty the student chooses, with the selection reported to the IT Support Center at dispecing@helpdesk.tuke.sk
  • Day students receive the internationally recognized ISIC student card (www.isic.sk), while part-time students get an internal university card.
  • The card remains the student's property and stays with the student if they leave or finish their studies.
  • The validity of the card is indicated both visually and electronically, expiring on September 30th of the following academic year or when the student is removed from the university’s records in the MAIS system.
  • The student card issued for the Bachelor's (Bc.) level is valid for subsequent Master's (II.) and Doctoral (III.) levels as long as it matches the student's current study program.
  • Part-time employees at TUKE must also have a student ID as per current regulations.
  • Duplicate cards due to loss, damage, or malfunctions, as well as other issues, are handled by the IT Support Center.
  • Be mindful of bending the card, as it can damage the embedded antenna around its edges.
  • Access to TUKE campus parking lots via barriers is available for students in Bachelor's and Master's programs in justified cases (e.g., health reasons) with a written request confirmed by the academic department.
  • The student card is accepted by several transport companies for discounts, which follow the tariffs of individual providers:

Extension of student identification cards (prolongation of validity) for higher-year students in both full-time and part-time studies:

  • Visual extension
    • Full-time study:
      • The extension is marked with the ISIC label – providing complete functionality of the student ID.
    • Part-time study:
      • The extension is marked with an internal university (red square) label "part-time student" – enabling all internal (university) and external functionalities of the card, excluding discounts and benefits provided through CKM SYTS and transport discounts. (Students will receive this label upon enrollment at the academic department, with the fee for this included in the €2.50 charge for external functionalities paid together with the enrollment fee according to the rector's decree).
      • Alternatively, the EURO<26 label (original EURO<26 license for the academic year for €10 for part-time students who are under 27 years old) grants the full functionality of the student ID, including discounts and benefits offered through CKM SYTS at www.euro26.sk
  • Electronic extension via the university terminal (for both full-time and part-time study)
    • Each higher-year student must place their identification card at the university terminal, available in the main building at Letná 9, at the faculty in Prešov, or at the IT Support Center (ÚVT) at Němcová 3.

Non-extended cards will be automatically blocked in both internal and external systems.

External functionalities and their activation

  • Public transportation: Includes suburban, long-distance, and city transport (MHD).
  • Electronic wallet: For use in various payment systems.
  • MHD time tickets: For bus, tram, and other public transport.
  • Railway transportation: Discounts and access for rail travel.
  • Access and attendance systems: For university buildings and services.
  • Centre for Scientific and Technical Information of the Slovak Republic: Access to various research resources.
  • Libraries outside of the TUKE University Library: Access to other libraries affiliated with the university.

Activation of external functionalities

The activation of external functionalities is carried out exclusively through the university terminals after the student has enrolled in regular studies for the academic year. This process ensures that the student’s ID card is linked to the appropriate services and functionalities, such as public transportation, library access, and other external systems.

Issuance of the extension label for the academic year 2024/2025

The prolongation and issuance of the extension label for the academic year 2024/2025 for higher-year students will take place starting from September 2, 2024, at the Institute of Computational Technology, Němcová 3, ground floor, door number 5.

To use discounts, such as transportation benefits, it is necessary to activate the student ID at any university terminal or terminals provided by transport service companies.

Electronic extension can be completed by placing your ID card at the university terminal, located at various university facilities:

  • Main building at Letná 9, ground floor
  • IT Support Center (ÚVT) at Němcová 3, ground floor
  • Faculty of Engineering (FVT) at Bayerova 1, Prešov, ground floor.

All electronic functionalities, including those for transportation sectors, will be activated using the described method.

With the ISIC label, you will receive various additional discount coupons in the coupon booklet or on the website www.isic.sk.

Blocking of ISIC cards for full-time students without the 09/2025 extension label

Students in all three levels of full-time study who do not have the 09/2025 extension label affixed or pre-printed on their ISIC cards will be blocked in all systems starting from October 15, 2024.

We ask all full-time students to check their student IDs and, if they have not yet received the 09/2025 extension label, to promptly pick it up at the Card Creation Office at the IT Support Center (ÚVT), Němcová 3 (for FVT students, at the faculty office in Prešov).

University ID for Part-time Students EURO<26

The EURO<26 university ID is intended for all part-time students who are under 27 years old.

It is a sticker that will be placed on the back of the university ID, allowing the student to enjoy a world of discounts and benefits through the EURO<26 program.

The EURO<26 license on the card is valid from September 1st of the respective academic year until September 30th of the following year, or until the student turns 27 (whichever comes first). The EURO<26 license must be renewed annually by purchasing a new sticker.

Identification Cards - Information for Graduating Students

For unsuccessful bachelor’s and master’s students:

They will continue their studies, and their card will be extended until September 30 of the relevant academic year. They must visit the contact office at the IT Support Center (ÚVT) or, after their state exams, at least 7 days later, bring their card to the university terminal. The terminal will update the card’s validity and the student discount (it’s necessary to check by clicking on the terminal screen). They will remain students entitled to discounted travel, and their information will be transferred to all internal and external systems.

For successfully graduated bachelor’s students who will continue to master's studies:

Upon successfully completing their bachelor's degree, they cease to be students and, during the vacation period, lose their entitlement to discounted travel and meal subsidies. They retain access to the university library and the ability to use discounts provided through CKM SYTS (square extension label, www.isic.sk).

If they wish to continue using their ISIC card for travel during the vacation until enrollment in the master's program, they must visit a university terminal. Otherwise, the card will become invalid. The terminal will set it to full (non-discounted) fare tickets, and they can use their wallet credit or purchase time-based tickets at full fare. After enrolling in the master’s program, they can use the terminal again to activate their discounted travel.

Transport providers note that confirmation of acceptance into the master's program does not serve as proof that the individual is still a student and thus not eligible for discounted travel tickets.

For successfully graduated master's students:

For all students who do not continue to doctoral studies: The ISIC card can no longer be used in either internal or external applications (e.g., transportation), and they will need to purchase a transport provider's card for travel. Any remaining balance on the ISIC card can be transferred to the new transport card.

If a student decides to pursue doctoral studies, from the day of enrollment in the doctoral program, they can use their original ISIC card again, but without eligibility for transportation discounts. Use of the card for full fare travel during the vacation period for future doctoral students is handled individually at the IT Support Center (ÚVT).
