TUKE introduced the project "TECHNICAL TALENTS 2020+"

University Highlights

On 20 May 2020, the Faculty of Materials, Metallurgy and Recycling (FMMR) of the Technical University of Košice welcomed journalists on its premises with the aim of introducing the project called "Technical Talents 2020+". The press conference was attended by the Rector of the Technical University of Košice, prof. Stanislav Kmeť, the President of U.S. Steel Košice, James E. Bruno, and the Dean of FMMR, doc. Iveta Vasková. The company U.S. Steel Košice belongs to the long-term partners of the Faculty and financially supports the project "Technical Talents 2020+". 3rd and 4th year high school students, as well as all students of the Technical University of Košice, have a unique opportunity to participate in the project by creating a project work on one of the following topics:

  • Circular Economy / Be Creative in Recycling
  • Modern Materials / Steel World of Technology
  • Energy / Where the Hell is Energy?
  • Environmental Engineering / Defend the Green Border
  • Special Category: Every Successful Journey Begins with the Right Decision

Every month, up to twelve of the best project works are evaluated and awarded the prize money of €200. The project lasts from 1 January 2020 to 31 October 2020, and students have the opportunity to apply through the online form on the website: https://fmmr.sk/projekt-vzdelavania/.

At present, 37 students have already been rewarded, of which 22 are high school students and 15 are university students. The main mission of the project is to popularize science, actively involve high school and university students in discovering the exciting side of technical subjects and help them understand their role. The aim of the project focused on education at the Faculty of Materials, Metallurgy and Recycling or other TUKE faculties, with an emphasis on future industry needs, is the creation of a model to support education and training of students for the current and future needs of the knowledge society and the labour market with a focus on technical sciences.

Several Slovak media showed interest in the press conference, and we believe that also with their help, TUKE will meet other clever young scientists. The award-winning project works so far have shown that science, creative and new ideas play a part in the life of students.
