The Industrial Property Office of the Slovak Republic has published statistics, which show that universities currently generate up to a third of Slovak patents. Out of 221 patent applications filed in 2020, a third comes from the Slovak university environment.

The Technical University in Košice has become the leader in filing patent applications among universities in the last three years. Furthermore, up to 54 patents have been granted since 2019.
