TUKE will build a new Slovak supercomputer

As a beneficiary of the Recovery and Resilience Support, TUKE will build a new supercomputer, named Perún, and launch the supercomputer for the national supercomputing centre with a planned capacity of up to 13 PFLOPS, with the ambition to be ranked in the world's top ten energy efficient supercomputers in the “Green 500” ranking.
The main aim of the project is to procure and implement a publicly accessible national high-performance computing infrastructure to serve not only the academic community, but also public and government institutions, as well as private research and development. Another objective is to promote actively the adoption of High Performance Computing (HPC) based solutions, i.e. HPC ecosystem development.
HPC is currently considered as a key technology for both basic and applied research in many scientific disciplines and industries. Supercomputers are crucial tools that are increasingly applied to solve complex challenges and to transform them into opportunities to create innovation. Such tools as artificial intelligence (AI), large-scale data processing or advanced simulations of various phenomena and processes are highly dependent on available computing capacity. They are used in fields such as meteorology, climatology, medicine, pharmaceutical design, material design, and other domains continuously increase with the development of new applications (e.g., designed for exascale infrastructures), the development of AI, and also with the growth in the performance of HPC infrastructures.
The launch of the new supercomputer at TUKE is planned by the end of Q4 2025.
