Statement of the Technical University of Košice to the Amendment of the Higher Education Act
Messages
The Technical University of Košice (TUKE) welcomes the draft act amending the Higher Education Act. In particular, it is beneficial to amend the competence of the governing board of the university as well as the competence of other bodies of the academic self-government of the university, which shall enable universities to direct the university's smooth running more efficiently and promptly, as well as to respond more flexibly to the needs of social and economic practice.
The draft act also specifies more thoroughly the legal regulation of the qualification requirements for filling the posts of university teachers and the posts of associate professors and professors. It also optimises the appointment of members of selection committees for the selection procedure for the post of associate professor or professor. It is questionable whether the involvement of a larger number of parties in the appointment of selection committees has resulted in the desired expertise and transparency.
Furthermore, the Technical University of Košice also positively perceives the proposed change to the Act on Quality Assurance in Higher Education. The planned amendment of the conditions for accreditation of the international joint study programme shall also contribute to the goal of Slovak universities to become a significant part of the European Higher Education area.
