On Wednesday, 5 May 2021, Dr.h.c. prof.h.c. prof. Ing. Stanislav Kmeť, DrSc., Rector of TUKE, gave the appointment decree to prof. Ing. Tibor Uhrín, ArtD., and appointed him to the position of Dean of the Faculty of Arts TUKE. At its meeting on 30 March 2021, the Academic Senate of Faculty of Arts TUKE elected prof. Tibor Uhrín to this position for the term of office 2021–2025. The act of appointing a new dean was also attended by doc. Ing. Ján Kanócz, CSc., who was the Head of the Faculty of Arts TUKE for two terms, since 2013.
Tibor Uhrín studied industrial design at STU in Bratislava. In 2006, he completed his doctoral studies in design at the Faculty of Architecture and Design, STU. For the children's wooden construction set Gringo, he won the main prize in the competition Good Design 1993, which was organized by the Slovak Design Centre (SCD) in Bratislava. In the mid-1990s, Tibor Uhrín began creating furniture, interior accessories, and dining pieces. Later he began to develop objects, such as bowls with different internal structures. They are milled with specially designed equipment of his own concept (Fossils, Furrowed and Drifting Bowls, Pirogues, Erosions, Cadlabs). Their variants are currently in the collections of the Slovak National Gallery (2016) and the Slovak Museum of Design in Bratislava (2017). Tibor Uhrín publishes reflections on crafts and design in academic journals and proceedings. He published the book “Wood, Design and Tradition” (The Centre of Folk Art Production /ÚĽUV/, 2013). His extensive monograph “Form Enhances Function” /Forma spríjemňuje funkciu/ was published in 2019. Since 2005, Tibor Uhrín has been the Head of Department of Design at the Faculty of Arts TUKE, where he founded the Innovation Design Studio. In 2016, he was inaugurated as a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design (VŠVU) in Bratislava.
