HiPEAC workshop at TUKE

On October 9, 2017, a meeting of major European Network of academic and industrial research institutions – HiPEAC European Network on High Performance and Embedded Architecture and Compilation (www.hipeac.net) with the representatives and researchers of TUKE, UPJŠ (Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice) and selected partner institutions was held in the Rector´s Office meeting room.

HiPEAC´s mission is to coordinate and secure research, education, conference and networking activities supporting continuous development of effective collaboration of academia, research institutions and industry with companies and institutions dedicated to development and relation of architectures, tools and instruments in the field of high-performance and embedded computer systems. Through its activities, it contributes significantly to the development of the European Research Area in the fields concerned in close cooperation with the corresponding institutes of the European Commision.

The meeting program was divided into two parts. The first part took place in the morning, during which prof. Stanislav Kmeť, the Rector of TUKE, welcomed and introduced the HiPEAC delegation and at the same time welcomed and introduced prof. Pavol Sovák, the Rector of UPJŠ. The actual program of the morning meeting, hosted by prof. Anton Čižmár, the Vice-Rector of TUKE, focused on presenting the role and professional orientation of both host universities by their rectors and presentation of the role and aims of HiPEAC by prof. Koen De Bosschere, coordinator of HiPEAC. Two representatives of HiPEAC member universities made a speech within the scope of the program - prof. Rainer Leupers of the University of Aachen and prof. Kostas Magoutis of the University of Ioannina, Greece.

In the second, afternoon, part the introduction of innovative clusters from the region of Eastern Slovakia - AT+R cluster and Košice IT Valley and partner companies - ZTS VUU, a.s. and Spinea a.s. and the research and development activities of the selected research teams from TUKE and UPJŠ took place.

As part of the discussions during the meeting, a mutual intention of both parties to use active research and development and educational cooperation within the activities and actions of the HiPEAC network was presented.
